memorial service tomorrow in newtown. >>> cbs reporter ines ferre is live in newtown, connecticut where investigators are piecing together what happened. ines. >> reporter: well, ann, it's been a day of mourning here in newtown and across the nation as families are grieving the loss of loved ones and a community tries to pull together. 12-year-old jocelyn cardenaz came from danbury, connecticut it drop off flowers at a memorial for the 26 people killed at sandy hook elementary school. >> even though we didn't know anyone directly just hurt because you never know what's going to happen next. >> reporter: she is one of many grieving for those gunned down in newtown, connecticut friday morning. investigators identified the shooter as 20-year-old adam lanza. the medical examiner says everyone was shot multiple times with a rifle. >> this probably is the worst i have seen. >> reporter: eight boys and 12 girls all ages 6 and 7 died including anna marcus green the daughter of a well-known saxophone player and emily parker who moved to newtown a year ago. >> she was a type person that could jus

is taking place in newtown, connecticut. this is at newtown high school. hundreds are in attendance including president obama. he is expected to speak shortly. cbs will carry the president's remarks live as they happen. >>> chilling new details about -- are emerging about the deadly rampage in connecticut that left 28 people dead including 20 children. sources say the shooter, adam lanza, shot his mother four times in the head, apparently as she lay sleeping. computers in the home were found smashed. lanza then drove it to the school and forced his way in by shooting out a window. within minutes he shot and killed the children and six adults, and then as police closed in, lanza shot himself. in newtown, it was a day to mourn their dead at church services. cbs is in newtown where president obama is among the mourners. >> reporter: hundreds of mourners at a vigil in new town gave first respond ears standing ovation. president obama is there to help this community deal with the tragedy. people have been stopping at town memorials all day. while others attended sunday services focused o
